Now that we have entered the Anthropocene era, and humans have become the planet's main drivers of change, international relations and global governance can no longer be considered independently of environmental issues. Climate change, ozone depletion, biodiversity loss, rising sea levels... most environmental problems transcend national borders. Addressing them requires going beyond the framework of the State; likewise, the consequences of these issues — human migration, competition for natural resources, conflict — profoundly affect inter-State relations.
