Marie Sonnette-Manouguian is a sociologist and lecturer at the University of Angers, and a researcher with the ESO laboratory (CNRS). After her PhD on political engagement by rappers, she now works on the processes of legitimation of popular music.
This book provides an overview of current knowledge on hip hop music, combining both the results of unprecedented studies and an overview of social science research. It reveals the range of the political, economic, sociological, geographical, and aesthetic transformations to which this musical genre contributes.
