As a public and support financial institution, the Agence française de développement (AFD) is the central player in the development policy of France. It is engaged in projects that improve the lives of people in developing, emerging countries and in French overseas departments in a concrete way. Through its intervention in many sectors – energy, health, biodiversity, water, digital technology and training –, the AFD supports the transition toward a safer, fairer and more sustainable world, a common world.
Its action is fully in line with the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Present in 109 countries through a network of 85 agencies, the AFD currently supports more than 3,600 development projects. In 2017, it committed 10,4 billion euros to fund these projects.
