Démocratie values were deeply rooted in the Chilean institutions and Chilean life. Chile was heavily dépendent on the interna­tional capitalist System, and this proved to be a major hindrance to the socialist experiment. The rise to power of workers' organizations met with additional obstacles and brought about reactions that were to put a tragic end to the experiment.The Chilean attempt and failure can-not be ùnderstood without a many-sided ana-lysis.
