L'Algérie politique

Algeria was not born to politics in 1962. Independence représente a consécration, a renaissance more than a birth. The author endeavors to illustrate this by relating the transformations of a society rubbed out in 1830, condemned to oblivion, to a façade, until World War I, then progressively reconstituted to the point of contesting and shaking a domination, and then finally freeing itself. Through a critical analysis of the officiai versions and the obfuscations to which a certain history lent itself, and through a rereading of authors both classical and marginal, images émerge which challenge the archétypes. This second revised édition has been enlarged by about a hundred pages. It has a new préface and new conclusions, and provides a critical introduction to the major books and thèses of the late 1970's and early 1980's. An appendix présents a sélect bibliography.
