Global Space

Globalization is an entanglement of complex processes, in which individuals, inundated with information in real time, have a hard time situating themselves, whether winners or losers. To understand these processes necessitates the invention of new matrices of comprehension.

Players and Networks

Facing nation states too small for too large a world, which actors return to regions, a poorly defined, poorly identified and sometimes disliked intermediate level? Global firms, NGO's, religious networks, terrorists groups, mafias : who are the players deployed in the global space ? How do they act ?

Identities and Allegiances

The question of allegiances and universally shared values is once again posed. The loss of collective and individual benchmarks brings about the sometimes brutal regeneration of identity, rendering more complicated the development of diversity.

Govern and Regulate

Ever more fluid and more interdependent, the world is at the same time deeply fractured. The diffusion of violence and the globalization of environmental problems require reflection, beyond military and geostrategic, on the overlapping of economic, social, and political factors.

China in Globalization

The economic and political emergence of this society in movement generates, modifies, and amplifies global phenomena which influence and transform it in turn. Comprised of maps, graphics and never before seen texts, this special report on China helps decode the issues of current upheavals.

A Model Outline

More than an atlas, this book is a veritable tool box : conceived by a cartographer, a geographer and two political scholars, it is the result of teamwork around the course of Global Space, one of the luminary courses of Sciences Po. The cartography and the graphics lean upon the work realized by the Cartography Studio of Sciences Po, which has become a reference in this area of study.

Marie-Françoise Durand is Professor of Geography at Sciences Po and Manager of the Cartography Studio.

Phillipe Copinschi, a graduate of the IEP of Paris and the Solvay School of Commerce of the Free University of Brussels, is a Doctor of Political Science (International Relations) at the IEP of Paris and an Instructor at Sciences Po.

Benoît Martin is a Cartographer-Geographer at the Cartography Studio of Sciences Po, in charge of curriculum at the University of Orléans, and a graduate of the IEP of Toulouse in International Relations.

Delphine Placidi is a political scholar, a graduate of the IEP of Paris and the University of Birmingham, a PhD and Instructor at Sciences Po.
