Négociations internationales

First Edition

Preface by Bertrand Badie

Peace, trade, nuclear, environment, Europe... Multilateralism requires players to constantly negotiate. A very useful synthesis on the specifics of the multilateral negotiations for professionals, teachers and students. Read More

Negotiation is the backbone of international relations and it represents the core activity of multilateral organizations and conferences, whether it is an issue of the regulation of the global economy, peace and security or environmental issues. As a dynamics of cooperation, negotiation can simultaneously be perceived as a game of strategic interaction between States and as a process of socialization and the creation of norms.

Here international negotiation is studied from the point of view of social science theories and culturalist discourse; from the point of view of its long history and contemporary stakes (Israeli-Palestinian conflict, nuclear proliferation, trade, climate); and from that of negotiators' tactics (diplomats, civil servants, experts, NGOs) and the institutions that employ them (UN Security Council, WTO, European Union).

This work seeks to function as a reference text for teaching international relations and educating future negotiators.
